What is this Test About?
PCV also called Hematocrit measures the proportion of red blood cells in the blood. It is the ratio of the volume of packed red blood cells to the total blood volume. A reduced PCV indicates red cell destruction, blood loss & failure of bone marrow production of red blood cells. Increased PCV is seen if there is an abnormal increase in bone marrow production of red blood cells or in cases of dehydration.
